MORE ABOUT THE

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA AIDS COUNCIL

 & COMPREHENSIVE CARE CLINIC

SLAC was founded in 1987.  The Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC) was founded in 1996 and treats all infectious diseases.  In 2000, the CCC became a Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part C provider to offer services to minority populations in underserved, rural areas.  In 2010, the CCC became a Part D provider serving women, children, youth, and infants.

SLAC and the CCC began integrating their services in 2009-2010.  This partnering allows for a more comprehensive continuum of quality care and holistic approach for those in Southwest Louisiana affected by HIV/AIDS. Together with the Resource & Wellness Center (RWC), SLAC and the CCC employ the Health Systems Navigation (HSN), a model of care that treats the patients at all levels, meeting the client where they are in life, and linking them to medical care.

HSN helps with the removal of socio-economical obstacles that clients face in accessing treatment or social services, including the stigma still attached with a positive diagnosis.

The two facilities suffered damage in Hurricane Laura,  a  Category 4 hurricane, on August 27th. The high winds devastated much of the city's infrastructure. NOW, less than a month later, Tropical Storm Beta is currently flooding this already fragile area with 8-10 inches of rain. Electricity was just beginning to be restored and running water is still out in several areas.

SLAC & CCC are a vital lifeline to the parishes they serve and these parishes are in crisis. Their clientele depend on SLAC/CCC for medical care, food and supplies. Many of the SLAC/CCC staff have severe damage to their homes or their homes are gone altogether, forcing them to temporarily move to neighboring states to stay with others.  Some are commuting 3-4 hours one way daily to the facilities to begin reopening. SLAC/CCC is trying to keep connected to their clients and support their community, but they desperately need help. With no water, little power, and a devastated infrastructure, even basic needs are not being met. SLAC/CCC needs funds for cots, portable water trucks, portable showers for their clients and staff, food supplies to restock the food pantry, and also basic household and personal items like towels, linens, toiletries, etc.

Your generous donations are greatly appreciated.

LFF is a 501c3 and all donations are tax deductible. We are also collecting toiletries, paper goods, diapers, and personal hygiene products to be distributed through SLAC.

Please contact Nicole LaFountaine at nicole@kikicopropertiescom to donate.
